Incarnation

by me.

I.
I become present to the world
in night, in quiet, in sleep.
Boundless as the dark,
I am heavy-handed with authority
granted by unknowledge and
uncertainty. I own my fullness
in dreams and half-remembered
hallelujahs.

II.
I am born anew with
every orbit, from purpose
into purpose, cells and
parameters and hopes ardently
shattered and remade countless
times over, as simply
as a child’s puzzle, as
quickly as a blink.

III.
I make worlds between
four walls, shadows moving
in learned rotations, every hour
a new space. Only to be conquered
by sunlight dripping through
half-open blinds, searing
all things into permanence,
stiltedness, quite known and certain.
